Three finalists named for college football’s Wuerffel Trophy

Dart-sponsored award recognizes service, academics

MASON, MI – The Wuerffel Trophy – college football’s premier award for community service – this week announced the three finalists for the 2017 award, which is sponsored by Dart Container Corporation’s Solo brand of products for the second straight year.

One of the three finalists will be named as the award recipient on December 5 at the National Football Foundation’s press conference in New York City.

The finalists are:

  • Courtney Love, linebacker, University of Kentucky.
  • Blaise Taylor, defensive back, Arkansas State University.
  • Drue Tranquill, linebacker, University of Notre Dame.

“We are proud to support the Wuerffel Trophy and its focus on community service and academics,” said Kevin Myers, Dart Container’s Vice President-Sales/Consumer Products Division. “I want to congratulate these three outstanding finalists on their admirable efforts to make a difference in their communities and at their universities.”

Danny Wuerffel, quarterback of the 1996 National Champion University of Florida Gators, established the annual trophy in 2005 as a way to recognize student-athletes who contribute off the field as well as on. The 2016 award went to Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight.

The award emphasizes community service over any other criteria, which is closely aligned with Dart’s commitment to giving to back to local communities through product donations, cash gifts and volunteerism encouraged among its workforce.

As part of our sponsorship, Solo is promoting the Wuerffel Trophy in eye-catching product displays in numerous retail stores throughout the nation. The displays feature customized products in 11 different color combinations that match the colors of local teams and festively contribute to game-day tailgates and gatherings.
